Peptide-rich extracts from spent yeast waste streams as a source of bioactive compounds for the nutraceutical market
نویسندگان
چکیده
Spent yeast is one of the main fermentation process by-products and several bioactive ingredients have been extracted from it, such as mannans β-glucans. These extraction processes generate waste streams rich in protein, that can still be used to produce peptide-rich extracts. This work describes use a scalable low-cost obtain peptide extracts circular economy concept. Peptide fractions produced contained 48.3 86.4% protein ( w /w) essential amino acids amounts higher than those defined by FAO WHO references. Regarding their properties, exhibited strong antihypertensive antioxidant activities. Furthermore, an inhibition 62.0–71.3% HMG-CoA reductase was observed, feature hereby described for first time, thus stating cholesterol-lowering capacity peptides. In conclusion, due combined nutritional characteristics, are good candidates dietary supplementation functional foods. • peptides were studied potential ingredient diet supplement. A sustainable, fractions. Fractions consisted small with acid balance. Strong recorded obtained For activities reported on protein.

An Investigation into Spent Coffee Waste as a Renewable Source of Bioactive Compounds and Industrially Important Sugars
Conventional coffee brewing techniques generate vast quantities of spent espresso grounds (SEGs) rich in lignocellulose and valuable bioactives. These bioactive compounds can be exploited as a nutraceutical or used in a range of food products, while breakdown of lignocellulose generates metabolizable sugars that can be used for the production of various high-value products such as biofuels, ami...
متن کاملCoffee industrial waste as a natural source of bioactive compounds with antibacterial and antifungal activities
Coffee is one of the most popular and consumed beverages in the world, which leads to a high contents of solid residue known as spent coffee grounds (SCG). As is known, coffee beans contain several classes of health related chemicals, including phenolic compounds, melanoidins, diterpenes, xanthines and carotenoids which are associated with therapeutic and pharmaceutical effects, due to antimicr...
متن کاملAntagonistic activity of bioactive compounds extracted from cyanobacterium Oscillatoria isolated from oil refinery waste
The aim of the present study was to isolate cyanobacteria from oil refinery waste water and detection of antagonistic activity of their extracts on four species of pathogenic bacteria. The cyanobacterium was isolated and purified on Blue green algae medium number 11 (BG-11) medium. Methanol and water extracts prepared from the cultured cyanobacterium after 45 days growth on BG-11 medium. The bi...
متن کاملChemically engineered extracts as an alternative source of bioactive natural product-like compounds.
The access to libraries of molecules with interesting biomolecular properties is a limiting step in the drug discovery process. By virtue of a long molecular evolution process, natural products are recognized as biologically validated starting points in structural space for library development. We introduce here a strategy to generate natural product-like libraries. A semisynthetic mixture of c...
